NEL80 - Enfield Computer Club

This is the home page of NEL80 - Enfield Computer Club - This update 13th December 2009.

Today's (13th December) meeting has been cancelled - heating not working properly.

When do we meet? Second Sunday of the month at St Luke's & St John's Community Centre, Hawthorne Grove (off Morley Hill) Enfield, Middlesex. 10.30 to 5.00 pm. It is a typical "church hall" which has plenty of space.

Who are we? NEL80 is one of the oldest continuously running computer clubs in the UK having been founded in 1980.

What do we do? The club does not have a rigid programme of events and leaves it to other clubs for this. Members in this club tend to "do their own thing" - for example a member may wish to upgrade their PC - we have the space to spread out - large tables - and advice and help from other members.

What do we hope to do? Membership is currently quite small but we are hoping to attract members who may be interested in other computer-related fields like robotics.

How do I join? Come along to a club meeting. There is currently no "annual subscription" but members pay a contribution (currently £5) each time they attend as this helps to cover the rent.

Dates for 2010 are - Sundays:
3rd January

What is the origin of the Club's name? NEL80 is the original name of the Club. It was founded in 1980 in Chingford - North East London (NEL+80) AND members mostly had the Tandy Model 1 computer which was based on the Z80 microprocessor. The club rules said that the club catered for owners of computers based on the "80 series of microprocessors". "Enfield Computer Club" has simply been added to denote location.
